The TimoDesk guided tour is a short walkthrough that shows new users around the dashboard one step at a time. Each card highlights one part of the page and explains it in a sentence or two. It takes less than a minute, you can skip it at any point, and you can replay it from the account menu.
The first time you open a new tool, you see a sidebar full of links and a page full of charts. Most people click around until something makes sense. The tour gets you there faster, and it points out the one control that changes everything else on the page.
What is the TimoDesk guided tour?
The tour is a series of cards that appear on top of your dashboard. Each card points at one thing: the sidebar, the date range, a row of figures, a chart.
While a step is showing, the rest of the page dims and the part being explained stays lit. If that part is further down the page, the page scrolls to it for you.
Every card has the same simple layout:
- A counter: for example "3 of 11", so you know how much is left.
- A title and a short explanation: what you are looking at and what it is for.
- Back and Next buttons: move at your own pace. The last card shows Done.
- A close button: leave the tour at any point.
The tour came with the new dashboard we introduced in the new TimoDesk announcement. If you want the full story behind that change, read why we redesigned TimoDesk.
What happens before the tour starts?
A brand new workspace has no data to show yet, so the first thing you see on the dashboard is a setup checklist with a Steps left count. Each step ticks itself off when it is done. The account setup guide covers each step in more detail.
Setup steps for organizers and business managers
- Verify your email.
- Create your first project.
- Invite a team member.
- Enable tracking for a member.
- Assign a project to a member.
If you have not tracked any time yourself, the checklist also offers the desktop app, in case you want to track your own hours too.
Setup steps for members and team managers
- Verify your email.
- Join a project. If you are not on one yet, ask your organizer or manager to add you.
- Start tracking time. Install the TimoDesk desktop app and track your first session. The step ticks off once you have tracked time.
Each unfinished step has a button that takes you to the right page, such as Go to Projects or Invite Members. There is also a Skip button if you want to see the dashboard straight away. Skipping hides the checklist for your current session. If steps are still open, it comes back the next time you sign in.
The guided tour starts on its own the first time you reach the full dashboard, once the checklist is finished or skipped.
How does the guided tour start?
The tour opens with a welcome card in the middle of the screen: "A quick look around your dashboard. It takes less than a minute."
You have two choices on that card. Click Show me around to begin, or click Skip tour to close it and get on with your day.
Nothing on the page changes while the tour runs. It only explains what is already there. It does not create projects, change settings or touch your tracked time.
What does the tour show organizers and managers?
Organizers, business managers and team managers see the team version of the dashboard, so their tour covers the team cards. After the welcome card, here is each step in order. You can read more about these cards on the team dashboard feature page.
| Step | What it shows you |
|---|---|
| Everything is in the sidebar | Projects, reports and settings live in the sidebar, and you can collapse it for more room. |
| One range for the whole page | The date range at the top. Pick a period and every figure and chart below follows it. |
| Key figures | Hours, activity, active members, idle share and completed tasks, each with its trend across the range. |
| Team Day | Who worked when, session by session, colored by activity. Arrows step through the days. |
| Live Now | Who is working at this moment, and on what. |
| Top apps and websites | Where the team's time goes, with a switch between apps and websites. |
| Time Allocation | How the hours split across projects, day by day. |
| Performance Map | Each member placed by hours a day and activity, so it is easy to see who might need a hand. |
| Action Center | Requests and problems that need you, worst first. Open one to see the full list. |
| Your account | Profile, password and sign out, and the place to take the tour again. |
Two of these steps are worth slowing down for. The date range matters because the dashboard opens on the last 15 days, and changing it updates every card at once. The key figures row is the quickest summary on the page, with tiles for Hours tracked, Avg. activity, Members active, Idle share and Tasks completed.
If you manage a team, take a second look at the Action Center. It is where items such as manual time requests waiting for your approval show up. Manual time is off by default, and the organizer turns it on. Read more in how manual time requests work.
What does the tour show team members?
Members get the same dashboard for their own time, so the tour wording changes to match. "Team Day" becomes "My Day", and the team-only cards are replaced by the ones only members have:
- Everything is in the sidebar: the same introduction to navigation.
- Projects and tasks: the Projects link, where you see the projects you are on and the tasks assigned to you.
- One range for the whole page: the date range that drives everything below it.
- Key figures: your hours, activity, active days, idle share and completed tasks.
- My Day: when you worked, session by session, colored by activity.
- My Tasks: the tasks your time went to in the period, latest first.
- Top apps and websites: where your time goes.
- Time Allocation: how your hours split across projects.
- Activity Heatmap: each day of the period as a cell. The darker it is, the longer you tracked.
- Recent screenshots: your latest captures. Open one to see it full size. This step appears once you have screenshots.
- Your account: profile, password, sign out and the link to replay the tour.
After the tour, the Projects step leads naturally into the task board, where your assigned tasks live.
How do you skip, close or replay the tour?
Skipping and closing
You are never locked in. There are three ways out:
- Click Skip tour on the welcome card.
- Click the close button in the corner of any card.
- Press Esc on your keyboard.
However you leave, the tour counts as seen and will not start by itself again for you in that browser.
Moving through the steps
Use Next and Back on the card, or the right and left arrow keys. On the last step, click Done.
Replaying the tour
To run the tour again, follow these steps:
- Click your name and photo at the top right of the page to open the account menu.
- Choose Take a tour.
It works from any page. If you are somewhere else, TimoDesk takes you to the dashboard and starts the tour there. This is handy when someone new joins your team: ask them to open the account menu and take the tour while you are on a call together.
Why might some tour steps not appear?
The tour only explains what is actually on your screen. A step whose card is not on your dashboard is skipped, and the counter adjusts to the real number of steps.
That is why a member never sees the Performance Map step and a manager never sees the Activity Heatmap. It is also why the tour is shorter if you replay it while the setup checklist is still showing. At that point it covers the welcome card, the Finish your setup checklist, the sidebar and your account menu, plus the Projects link for members.
Run it again from the account menu once your workspace is set up and you will get the full version. For a written reference to every card, see the dashboard guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the TimoDesk guided tour take?
Less than a minute. Each step is one short card with a title and a sentence or two, and you move through them with Next or the arrow keys. Managers see ten steps after the welcome card, and members see up to eleven.
Can I skip the guided tour?
Yes. Click Skip tour on the welcome card, use the close button on any later card, or press Esc. Once you leave, the tour counts as seen and will not start on its own again in that browser.
How do I replay the tour after closing it?
Click your name at the top right of any page to open the account menu, then choose Take a tour. If you are not on the dashboard, TimoDesk takes you there and starts the tour right away.
Why did the tour start again on another computer?
TimoDesk remembers that you have seen the tour in the browser you used. In a different browser or on a different device, it can start once more. You can skip it straight away with Skip tour or the Esc key.
Do members and managers see the same tour?
No. Organizers, business managers and team managers see the team cards, such as Team Day, Live Now, Performance Map and Action Center. Members see their own cards, such as My Day, My Tasks, Activity Heatmap and Recent screenshots.
Does the tour change any of my settings or data?
No. The tour only highlights parts of the dashboard and explains them. It does not create projects, change settings, invite anyone or touch your tracked time, so it is safe to run as often as you like.
